EPI Graduate Receives Coveted Fellowship

Dr. Eric Gaba, a 2011 EPI scholarship recipient, has received the highly competitive postdoctoral fellowship from the Marie Sklodowska Curie Action (MSCA) COFUND Impact program. Since 1996, the MSCA is one of the European Union’s most prestigious and highly sought-after flagship programs supporting researchers from all over the world.

Eric’s studies will be hosted at Vrije University in Brussels.

The MSCA postdoctoral fellowship is designed for research and training that fosters impact development and entrepreneurial skills. Eric, who has been working in the area of application of material in prosthetics and orthotics, will be researching biodegradable fiber for prosthetic socket development. During his PhD he discovered how plant fiber, a local Ghana material, can be used as an alternative for prosthetic socket design rather than expensive synthetic fiber which must be imported.

Eric received his undergraduate degree in BioMedical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2015 and a PhD in BioMedical engineering from the University of Ghana in March 2023. He has the distinction of being the first graduate to receive this degree from the University of Ghana as well as the first in the country.
